Riobent SD1 rheological additive is an organic derivative of bentonite clay. It is a highly dispersible additive suitable for systems primarily containing aliphatic and other non-polar to medium-polarity solvents. Riobent SD1 can be incorporated at any stage of the paint manufacturing process and is applicable for post-correction.

Advantages of using Riobent SD1 include:

• Significant enhancement of low shear and mid shear viscosity
• Elimination of the need for pregels
• No requirement for a chemical activator
• Control of flooding and floating of organic pigments
• Provision of excellent sag resistance and flow and leveling properties
• Prevention of mineral and inorganic pigment settling during storage
• Stabilization of paint and prevention of excessive penetration of liquid components into porous substrates

It can be added as a powder to the millbase either before or after pigment dispersion or during letdown.

Recommended dosages are as follows:

• 0.15% to 0.2% in paint
• 0.5% to 2% in primer
